Pension Policy Advisor Manager
Alberta Finance and Enterprise, Edmonton - The Public Sector Pension Policy division is seeking a highly motivated individual to play an important role in the development of public sector pension policy.
The successful person would be part of a team providing advice to senior decision-makers on Alberta public sector pension plans and the Canada Pension Plan. Pension policy involves issues of social policy, demographics, governance, legislative drafting, liability management, finance and investments.
An innovative and flexible individual, you will develop policy options, conduct research, assess proposals, prepare briefing notes, and maintain excellent relations with stakeholders.
Thinking strategically, managing multiple issues and working with tight timelines are some of the skills you will need as Pension Policy Advisor. Given the technical and legal nature of pensions, you should be skilled at analytic work and have a desire to search for new solutions to meet client needs. The ability to communicate complex issues in an easily understandable manner is a vital part of the job.
Qualifications: University degree in law, finance, economics, public or business administration or related discipline together with several years experience in pensions or a related field. Knowledge of the legislation governing public sector pension plans is required. A CEBS designation would be an asset. Equivalencies will be considered.

Job description:
Located at Advocis’ National Office in Toronto and reporting to the Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs, the Associate Director, Regulatory Affairs will: manage member committees; conduct research and analysis to develop policy options; execute advocacy initiatives relevant to the work of the Association; prepare written submissions to regulators, politicians and government officials; develop strategic plans for advocacy initiatives; represent the Association at industry working groups and before industry stakeholders, regulators and government officials; and prepare briefing materials for senior management and member volunteers.
Job requirements:
University degree in law, business, political science, or economics.
Ability to interpret and apply legislation.
Financial services sector experience, with an emphasis on the regulation of life and health insurance companies and intermediaries, and/or securities regulation.
Strong research, problem solving and negotiation skills.
Ability to work with stakeholders and build consensus.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are mandatory.
Organizational/conceptual skills to manage priorities.
Government and/or industry association experience is an asset.
